ABOUT THE ROLE

The Build service line ships new productized SaaS / mobile / marketplace builds on fixed price. The EM here runs an 8–15 engineer roster, owns engagement scoping accuracy (within 10% of estimate), staffing decisions, post-mortems, and client escalations. Player-coach role: 30–40% of your time still in code review or pairing.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  1. Own the Build service line P&L. Track gross-margin per engagement, drive estimate-to-actual variance toward <10%.
  2. Lead engagement scoping calls with client founders / CTOs. Translate vague intent into a fixed-price SOW.
  3. Run staffing decisions for the Build roster. 8–15 engineers across full-stack + mobile + design.
  4. Mentor senior engineers toward technical leadership. Drive promotion + comp recommendations annually.
  5. 30–40% of your time stays in code review, architecture review, or pairing. We don’t want EM-without-craft.

MUST-HAVES

  1. 12+ years engineering experience, with at least 2 years as an Engineering Manager owning a roster of 8+ engineers.
  2. Has run fixed-price / outcome-based engagements before. Comfortable with scope-management discipline as the value lever.
  3. Strong technical fundamentals — full-stack web, mobile (React Native or Flutter), or backend infrastructure.
  4. Excellent client-facing communication. Founders need to trust you in week one.

NICE TO HAVE

  1. Experience running distributed teams across India + UK / Australia / US timezones.
  2. Background in regulated industries (healthcare, financial services).
  3. Public writing or speaking on engineering management or productized engineering.
